Winter Olympics

Have you been watching the Olympics? We've been checking them out on and off. It's a welcome change from the regular TV fare.

These athletes are doing their very best to be the very best. Sometimes, anything less than the gold medal is a loss. On one of the events today, the best American placement was 38th. Now that doesn't sound very good at first, but if we are to conclude that this athlete was in the top 50 in the world, that should be significant. By the way, we're already beginning to cheer for Australian athletes and teams in addition to the home town favorites.

It's in the doing our best and being our best that I draw spiritual parallels. I'll quote a common scripture verse here that speaks to our own involvement in our faithwalk. Pray God that we exercise our faith to the glory of God, with the same veracity and tenacity that these world class athletes demonstrate to the glory of their country.

Philippians 3:14 (NIV)
14 "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Somehow, I can just imagine you and your boys watching figure skating and ice-dancing! ;)
