Kroc Futures

By now you may have seen the list of sites who are qualified to advance to the next round of applications to receive Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center grants. In alphabetical order, they are:

Ashland, OH
Boston, MA
Camden, NJ
Dayton, OH
Massena, NY
Philadelphia, PA
Puerto Rico
Staten Island, NY

I believe this will signify a new day in TSA Eastern Territory to the glory of God. I salute the Kroc family...I salute all 29 of our applicants...and I salute the Lord, who we will continue to honor through the good service and ministry of these up and coming centers.

1 Peter 1:21 (MSG)
"21 It's because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God."

I understand Camden is a place where this kind of center is needed, but having another one right accross the river in Philly?

Why not?

Camden and Philly are both major cities and each have a distinctive culture. They both need Kroc centres....I can think of several reasons that would necessitate two in close proximity....but the main one that comes to my mind at this moment is transportation. If we're reaching out to the poor and marginalized, we need to remember that for people who don't have cars, getting across that river might as well be like going to china. It's two different states, and the public transport between cities is sketchy at best. And the culture of the two cities is wildly different. and with as many people in both cities, there'll be more than enough people to fill both of them!

In regards to Christin's comment, is it the intent of the Kroc centers to reach the poor and marginalized? I wonder.

the intent is supposed to be such that the kroc centeres can both reach out to the community and support itself....breaking down the us vs them barrier of socio-economic classes and bringing people together in true community. Having a top notch centre helps facilitate a couple of things --

1. gives the calibre of quality that people are looking for in a facility

2. gives a sense of self and community worth to those communities that don't have a lot to be proud of

It's all in who's going to run them. A centre can only be as community and spiritually minded as it's leader.

I agree with Christin, and as a Philadelphia resident, I can confirm that, for the marginalized, getting from Philly to Camden is like getting from Philly to California. (Yes, NJTransit runs from Center City Philly to Camden, but a lot of people aren't aware of that.) Also, Philly and Camden are VERY different, and it's not unreasonable that there would be one here and one across the river.

I pray that God would send top-notch people to run all of the centers and that He would, even now, begin to prepare the communities and the support where each center will be.

Praise God the Territory has kept Mission at the center of the Kroc Project it seems that across the board the amry is recognizing past comprimises and making a public decision to be the Amry God has called us to be.

I salute my Territorial and my divisional leaders as the continue to tear down the high places of comprimise. God bless I am proud to be a part of the Army.
