Be A Hero

Allison commented on Friday about the Be A Hero Fund Raiser. I didn't get there, but I hope she'll update us on how it went.

Last August at Tam Conservatory, a commitment was made by the students to raise significant funds for the Hero Fund.

The Hero Fund was established to raise money to assist in the Salvation Army'’s relief efforts in the country of Nigeria, specifically, the work done to help the many orphaned children of that country.

As a group, a goal of $10,000 dollars to be raised by December 1 st, 2005 was decided upon. Additionally, the 75 students and their leaders agreed to work towards the ultimate goal of $50,000 dollars by the commencement of TAM Conservatory 2006.

Consider going to the link and make a donation.

Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
20 He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

The Fund-raiser went extremely well! We had the GNY dancers perform, the prep band, many different drama presentations, dancing, and singing. Followed by a love offering. Tabitha Gray spoke about this past summer and the commitment we made when we said that we would raise 50,000 dollars to help build a childrens home in Nigeria. All the people who attended TAM this past summer took a candle and as they lit it said what they want to be a hero for. Some wanted to be a hero for their siblings, for our generation, for the next generation leaders, for unborn children, for people who cannot speak for themselves, for the poor, for the kids in the corps... the list goes on. Then the Hempstead heros sang a song called offering as the people came and gave money.
When we think about all that we have, cars, cell phones, money, clothes, a roof over our heads, is giving some of your money to help children who have NO home really that difficult? God gave us the ulitmate gift, HIs son. And in return we are to help others. So I encourage you if you haven't donated money yet that you do. Anything will help!
God Bless you all!

P.S. there are now sweatshirts on sale that say hero on them for 27 dollars! Please contact TAM if you would like to purchase one!
