National Commander

So we learned today that Commissioner Israel L. Gaither will be the next National Commander of TSA in the USA. He is the first African-American to hold this post and I'm proud to be a Salvationist. He and his wife Commissioner Eva Gaither will usher in a new missional age by this appointment. This is not to discredit his predecessors in any way. It is a simple statement of my convictions.

The Bassetts have been remarkable in their leadership at National Headquarters. We are grateful for their faithfulness and sterling witness.

As the leadership changes, let us each reaffirm our commitment to the Lord, His Word and His ministry through TSA. I do.

Ephesians 1:18-21 (NIV)
18 "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,
20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come."

Thanks for the encouragment on my blog. We are very excited about the Gaither's vision for the Army. He is an anointed speaker. It will be good to have them back in the States again.

Actually, I think what you said about the Gaither's ushering in a new missional age speaks directly to the planning, foresight and efforts of their predecessors. In fact, it speaks highly of them, that they would have prepared the way in such a complete fashion that the Gaither's will be able to do what they will do during their appointment.

Blessings!!

Thanks for those wonderful words about my dad, Colonel. It IS great to have them coming home! I know one 8-year-old little boy who can hardly wait to have grandma and papa back. :-)

I read your blog quite often and was wondering why it was important for you to state that he was african american - is it not enough that he is a great salvationist and a wonderful leader, that he is a blessing to the salvation army of the united states of america.

Hey Anon...I hope you see this. You raise an important question. In American culture, TSA is not as fully understood in the African American community. This is due in part to the lack of A/A's in advanced leadership. So we celebrate with Commissioner Gaither in his heritage. Praise God!
